Long before the modern borders of Europe were drawn, the rolling hills of the Tarnava Valley were known as “Weinland”—the Land of Wine. Unlike the fortified citadels found elsewhere in the region, Bethlen-Haller was designed as a place of aristocratic leisure & celebration, a sanctuary where the local nobility would gather to enjoy the bounties of the land. Over the centuries, the castle passed through the hands of prominent dynasties, including the Hallers, and even changed ownership during high-stakes games of cards, adding to its legendary mystique.

Today, as you step through its grand gates, you are entering the spiritual home of Jidvei, Romania’s most iconic name in winemaking. The cool, misty climate of the Tarnava rivers creates a unique terroir that coaxes exceptional acidity and floral elegance from the grapes, producing world-class varieties like Fetească Regala and Traminer.
